About us
Situated in Šiauliai, the fourth largest city of Lithuania with 108 000 inhabitants and the centre of Northern Lithuania, the Šiauliai University was founded in 1948. The Faculty of Social Sciences takes part in the project. It is modern and dynamic and the largest faculty of Šiauliai University.

The mission of the faculty is to support free thinking and creative personalities who aim together at developing competences based on management, administration of economics and responsibility to welfare society. Since its establishment (in 1998) till present, more than 7,000 students have graduated from our faculty. First, second and third degree programmes are offered in the field of economics, management, business administration, finances, and public administration. More than 2,000 students are enrolled in full-time and part-time study programmes. 99 research and teaching staff (12 professors, 21 associate professors, 18 doctors of science and 48 teaching assistants) work in the department of Economics, Management and Public Administration.

Why we participate in Best Agers Lighthouses
Participation in the international project "Best Agers Lighthouses" is significant for the community and valuable for our faculty members. Although the faculty is rather young, the age management steps, recommended by the project scientist-advisors and consistently implemented by the external advisor and internal mentors, are an excellent opportunity to rethink about ageing in Lithuania, in the Baltic Sea region and in all Europe.

These steps are regarded as fundamental tools for leaders to start with strategic planning, to take decisions for creating circumstances that enable to profit from knowledge and abilities of older employees, and to prevent age discrimination in the organisation. In line with the valuable research tools designed by the project´s scientific partners, we gathered great information data. These sources have revealed some important challenges about our employees' age management and revealed a situation which we would not stand back from.
