About us
Kiel is the capital city in the Northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein, with a population of 240,000. Kiel has become one of the major maritime centres of Germany and is known for the annual Kiel Week, the biggest international sailing event in the world. Kiel's strong relation to the sea is also represented by being one of the traditional homes of the German Navy's Baltic fleet, by its function as major high-tech shipbuilding centre and centre for maritime research excellence. Due to its location at the Kiel Canal and the Kiel Fjord, it features prominently as important sea transport hub and as port for cruise ships touring the Baltic Sea.

Two departments of the city administration take part in the project which exhibit a variety of public activities including planning and building regulations, traffic control, wedding and passport services. Approximately 330 employees work in both departments.

Why we participate in Best Agers Lighthouses
Corporate Health Management is not a foreign word for the city of Kiel, because they tried for quite some time to face the demographic change with strategies. The aging of the population and thus the workforce is a challenge for companies and administrations. To cushion the emerging skill shortages, ideas are required that are put into practice.

The city of Kiel is faced with shortage of skilled workers, not only with other local authorities but also with the economy in increasingly competition for qualified junior staff. A sick leave above the national average and job cuts bring many employees to the brink of their capabilities. For this coming lower salaries for coveted specialists in comparison to private companies. It is all the more important for the city of Kiel, to get the working ability, experience and knowledge of older people as long as possible.
